Middle school math teacher Mrs. Denise Hirl chosen as SBCS Rotary Teacher of the Year

On May 8, middle school Math teacher Denise Hirl was awarded as the SBCS Rotary Teacher of the Year. In his letter of support for Mrs. Hirl, Mr. Lunsford wrote:

"Denise serves as a valued Mentor to new teachers, offering guidance, encouragement, and a wealth of instructional experience. Her support helps ensure that new faculty members thrive in their roles and feel confident in their classroom practices."

"Her commitment to academic excellence is evident in her tireless efforts to differentiate instruction, meeting the diverse needs of her students and helping each one achieve their potential."

"Beyond the classroom, Denise plays an essential role as our Dean of Women, offering guidance and a strong, supportive presence for the young women in our school. She serves as a trusted mentor and role model, someone students can turn to for both encouragement and honest conversation when challenges arise."

A few weeks ago, Mrs. Hirl was surprised by her family, her husband, Deacon Patrick Hirl; daughter, Dr. Katie Strandquist; son-in-law, Joey Strandquist; and grandson, Jerome, as she was notified of this honor. Mrs. Hirl has been a wonderful gift to our school, and we are grateful that her hard work and talents have been acknowledged. Congratulations, Mrs. Hirl!
